Love It or Leave It: New York Mag x Marc Jacobs Tag Tote

I was delighted when I learned that Marc Jacobs would be releasing a new line, aptly named “The Marc Jacobs”. I’ve been a longtime fan and follower of Marc Jacobs, and I’m eager to see the bags this new line will churn out (MJ, please hear my prayer and bring back the Stam!). We didn’t have to wait long for the release, because we got our first taste of the new line this summer. To celebrate the launch of The Marc Jacobs, the brand collaborated with New York Magazine, creating New YorkR Magazine x Marc Jacobs. The pieces from this collaboration are in stores now, and you’ll be able to purchase shoes, clothing, jewelry, small leather goods, and more from the collection. There were several bags released as well, and the Tag leather tote bag is the one that caught my eye.

The New York Magazine Tag tote comes in two color choices, a cream tote with a black logo-print, or a black tote with a multicolor logo-print. The handbag is covered in the magazine’s iconic “New York” logo and “Marc Jacobs” in the same recognizable font. New York’s city editor, Christopher Bonanos, explained “the logo says “New York”-so it can stand for both the city and the magazine in people’s minds, and heaven knows there are a lot of people who love both”. The cream version is reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic Dior newspaper dress, which I deem a brownie point for the MJ bag.

The Tag tote is a really nice size at 11.5″H x 10.5″W x 6″ D, which isn’t too large or too small (Goldilocks reporting for duty over here!). If you’re a tiny bag lover, it does come in a mini version if you’re looking for something smaller. While this open tote is lacking a zipper, it does feature an interior zipped pocket that can provide a bit of security. You can easily wear it over the shoulder or handheld because the design includes both top rolled handles and a longer shoulder strap (which comes in at 10.5 inches). The price point of this everyday tote is $495, and the smaller version retails for $450.

Maybe it’s because I’m a fan of New York Magazine and Marc Jacobs, but I am really enjoying this collection and would love to own the Tag tote (particularly in the cream and black option). When I sent the link to my sister, she was quick to call it tacky. This serves as a constant reminder that fashion is subjective, which I suppose is part of the fun! What do you think? Love it or leave it?
