If you’ve shopped on the Vera Bradley website in the past two years, you may have noticed many of our styles labeled as “RFID”. What exactly does that mean? We chatted with Hilary and Kelli from our merchandising and product development teams to learn what RFID does and why it’s important.
what is rfid?
RFID stands for radio frequency identification. The acronym refers to small electronic devices that consist of a small chip and antenna. Some credit cards and passports have RFID chips embedded. RFID skimming is a form of digital theft, which enables information from RFID chips at a distance using an RFID reader device. Our RFID technology blocks these frequency waves, preventing hackers and scanners from reading your sensitive information. This technology ultimately keeps your personal information safe from illegal, unwanted scans when out and about.
which styles have rfid integration?
If there are credit card slips in the style, it’s safe to say they have this RFID technology. RFID styles primarily are accessories like wallets and wristlets, but also include smaller handbags with built-in wallet functionality. Our passport covers also incorporate RFID technology. We began incorporating this innovative technology into many of our styles in late 2016 and have continued to add to more of our products so you can feel safe and secure on the go. If you’re unsure if your current Vera Bradley wallet or wristlet has this technology, simply look inside for the RFID technology shield symbol printed near the card slips.
does rfid technology change anything about the bag itself?
The RFID technology is incorporated into an inner layer, so you won’t visually notice a difference. Your bag will still feel the same and you don’t need to worry about separate care instructions. You’ll feel better knowing that your personal information is safe when traveling and on the go.
We have hundreds of options with the RFID technology.
